Variety is the spice of life (and work)

I often reflect on how varied my job is and today was a real peach!

I started (and ended) the day with helping out my good friend and client Salarah Starre with her podcast. We tried all manner of things to get her ad content to publish and in the end it came down to… turn it off and back on again! Lesson learned, always try this first 😄

After a quick yoga class I headed over to Bolghen Tree Nursery which is local to me in Cornwall and who have just engaged me to help them with their marketing. It was great to be out in the open air (not that I don’t love my home office) meeting new people and learning about the growing cycle of trees and how I can help them get 170,000 seeds planted!!

Then I interviewed Kico, a curator from Weymouth Sea Life Centre, who has just bought a load of Kitty Cabins from one of my long-standing clients in order to create new nesting boxes for their Fairy Penguins (the smallest in the world). I drafted the press release and selected, with Kico’s help, the basis for a new animated penguin which our illustrator Amy will be creating for us.

A quick cup of miso soup and it was on to a training and sharing session with Meg Rye to help her understand and make the most of using Canva to create eye-catching and engaging visuals to go with her articles and posts on LinkedIn and other platforms. I was able to show off the AI features in the latest release - some of which work incredibly well and some are still in, ahem, ‘beta’… 😉

A knotty problem followed, in which the SEO work I am trying to do was foiled by an unwilling developer. One to leave for another day.

Finally, a new quote for an old (familiar not ancient) friend and client for their business Mevagissey Ferries. Upgrading from their old site (built by me around eight years ago!) to the latest version of Squarespace.

Whew! That’s an awful lot of plates to juggle! But it really keeps my brain alive and working hard and that’s what I love. The best part is, if I accidentally drop one of those plates - it’s life innit - I know my clients are human too. Over the past year they have been so forgiving and supportive as I’ve gone through some personal and family challenges - many of them I’ve never even met! Thank you to you all.
